Let Them Be Kids

Let Them Be Kids is an all volunteer non-profit organization created to build community capacity on the grassroots level, while building playgrounds, skate parks and fitness parks across Canada. These projects leave a legacy of community members who are inspired and better equipped to lay a strong foundation for a brighter tomorrow.

Desired Outcomes

Remember when you were a kid and how it felt to spend days with friends and family at the park. The excitement you felt driving over the bumpy road, knowing the playground was just ahead............... Let's bring that joy to our children.

As a Recreation Committee and Town Council we are striving to meet the following goals:
- To create a social hub where all residents of Hare Bay can connect.
- To restore pride and ownership in our community by bringing everyone together to achieve a common goal thereby developing a more united community empowered to create positive change.
- To provide our youth with opportunities that will foster positive self-growth and leadership skills, encouraging them to take an active role in their community.
- To enhance the lives of our children by creating a safe and sustainable play area that will promote physical and social activity for the children and their families.
- Networking with local businesses and organizations to increase support and participation thus allowing us to develop future projects.

Thank you so much ladies for this great fundraiser!

Inspiration

Remember the days spent at Hare Bay Park basking in the sun waiting for your turn on the merry-go-round, or getting your friend to join you on the see-saw. Times may have changed for you and I as adults but our kids deserve to create those same memories ................

Can you see the pride put into decorating this bike for a Canada Day Parade we had many years ago, well I think we still have that pride today. This playground opportunity will come our way but once and then it's gone. We need to make the most of it and really make it count. Come join us on this journey.

New Playground Design

Our new playground designs have been finalized. Here is what the kids have chosen to see in their playgrounds.

This is what we're all working so hard for:
This is our existing playground. Our recreation committee worked hard to get this much, how much harder can we work as a community to achieve our new playground! We are half way there, WE CAN DO THIS!!

One Big Step Closer

The Town of Hare Bay has come through in a big way. They've committed $10,000.00 to the two new playgrounds. The donation is just one of several ways the town is helping. The second playground was a new building lot (valued at $6500.00) that the town, instead of selling has now set aside for the new playground. There are many other things behind the scenes that the town does but are never mentioned. Small things like helping with postage, paper copying, use of town equipment and labor and other things that almost go unnoticed. We would like to give another big thank you to our town manager George Collins for all his help, encouragement and involvement. This whole process is about more than just the Recreation Committees involvement, it takes the community as a whole to make this dream come true. So let's pull up our socks people and let's have fun making this happen.

Special Thanks

A big "Thank You" goes out to Charlene Hounsell who collected $600.00 in donations from businesses in St. John's. It's great to see people from away helping with this great cause.
