Let Them Be Kids

Let Them Be Kids is an all volunteer non-profit organization created to build community capacity on the grassroots level, while building playgrounds, skate parks and fitness parks across Canada. These projects leave a legacy of community members who are inspired and better equipped to lay a strong foundation for a brighter tomorrow.

Desired Outcomes

Remember when you were a kid and how it felt to spend days with friends and family at the park. The excitement you felt driving over the bumpy road, knowing the playground was just ahead............... Let's bring that joy to our children.

As a Recreation Committee and Town Council we are striving to meet the following goals:
- To create a social hub where all residents of Hare Bay can connect.
- To restore pride and ownership in our community by bringing everyone together to achieve a common goal thereby developing a more united community empowered to create positive change.
- To provide our youth with opportunities that will foster positive self-growth and leadership skills, encouraging them to take an active role in their community.
- To enhance the lives of our children by creating a safe and sustainable play area that will promote physical and social activity for the children and their families.
- Networking with local businesses and organizations to increase support and participation thus allowing us to develop future projects.

Playground Pre-Build

It may have been raining but it didn't stop these guys from doing what needed to be done. We appreciate every minute you spent helping us out. A BIG thank you to Oram's Ready Mix Cement for donating every drop of cement we needed and to Castle Building Supplies for donating the lumber needed for our two playground signs.

Ball Caps for Sale

Bruce and Elizabeth Collins have generously donated some ball caps that their son David collected while in hospital battling cancer. David was a very active young boy before he got sick and he loved sports and spent much of his time playing hockey at the rink. Unfortunately David lost his battle and passed away about 21 years ago. His parents gave the Recreation Committee these hats knowing that David would be so proud to help out with this great cause. So far in one day we raised over $390 dollars and we have at least 150 hats left to sell. If anyone is interested in purchasing a cap please contact Sue Collins at todd-sue@hotmail.com or any other committee member. Thanks very much for your support!

Song Writer's Circle

What a wonderful night!!! Not only was there great original music by Hare Bay's own Bryan Oram, Grace Parsons, Gary Collins and Alonzo Glover but we had an awesome surprise donation. First of all, thank you to Alec and Bryan Oram for coming up with the idea of the Song Writer's Circle and taking it on as a fundraiser. Also to Grace, Gary and Alonzo for taking the time to share your music and talent with us. Thanks to the Music Store in Gander for donating the use of some of the equipment that the musicians used. Of course, a BIG thanks to all those who attended, without you this night would not have been a success. We raised $525.00 at the door in freewill donations. And of course we can't forget the surprise donation. We can't express how grateful we are to Paul and Karen Oram of the Oram Group of Companies who presented the committee with a donation of $7500.00! That has helped so much in getting us closer to our goal. Thank you again to everyone involved in this evening and for making it a very memorable one.

Cold Plate Sale

Thank you to everyone for making this day a great success! Special thanks goes to Rose Collins and Nicole Parsons for heading up this fundraiser. Thanks to all the groups in Hare Bay that came together to cook turkeys, make salads, cut out the cold plates, the drivers who went door to door and of course to everyone who purchased them. Without you we could not have pulled this off. We don't have a final tally on how many were made but it was almost 1000 cold plates! What a lot of food. After expenses we took in a little over $4600.00, what an awesome fundraiser. And they were delicious too!

T-Shirt Orders

We are taking orders now for Build Day T-shirts. We are asking $5 each to help cover some of the cost. The sizing is as follows: Children's - small, medium, large, x-large. Adults - small, medium, large, x-large, xx-large. If you would like to purchase any shirts we need to know by June 3rd so that we can place the order and have them printed in time for Build Day. Think of this as a great souvenir of what our town will accomplish on June 18. Contact a Recreation Committee member for details.

A Generous Little Girl

This warmed our hearts ....... A special (and very cute too, I might add) little girl by the name of Alicia Lane told her mother that she wanted to save her money and donate it for the new playground. She saved up $100.00 and proudly handed it in along with helping her mother save up recycling. Well Alicia, we are very proud of you and we thank you very, very much. We can't wait to see you on Build Day.

Playground Layouts

After many hours of planning and preparation, this is what we anticipate both playgrounds to look like. We're trying to keep as many existing trees as possible and we plan on planting some new ones in the future. I hope the excitement is building in you as it is in us, let us as a community make this a reality for our children of today and tomorrow.
